One of the most effective ways of helping people to move forward when they have chronic pain is to encourage them to set goals. Ideally these should be goals looking to the future rather than the past and based on activities which associated with what the individual values in their life. As a result it should never be for the health professional to set goals for the individual but for them to come up with ideas for themselves. [1] [2]
